The story of modern shampoo began in 1904 when Hans Schwarzkopf launched a powder to be dissolved in water, which was superior to the hair-washing soaps of the time.  His wife later developed the first mass produced liquid shampoo which, being made with a detergent base, was actually harsher than soap.

Fast forward to now, conventional shampoos remain detergent-based, containing harsh substances that you wouldn’t dream of putting on your face but are actually just as harsh on your hair and scalp.  These conventional hair products strip your natural oils and introduce synthetic emollients to compensate, resulting in a dry, irritated scalp (that then overcompensates by producing excess oil) as well as dull, lifeless locks.

Worldwide communities of people are trying “no-poo”, “low-poo”, “co-washing”, “the curly girl method” and other approaches to break the self-perpetuating cycle of addiction to conventional modern hair products.  We’ve tried some of these alternative approaches - but now we want to achieve natural and healthy haircare through the convenience of high quality, luxurious, clean products that are a delight to use and offer superior results.
